AMICO’s Expanded Metal Mesh is manufactured using a cold metal forming process. Various raw material alloys in either coil or sheet form are loaded onto the back side of the press and then precisely fed one strand width at a time through the top and bottom dies. The top dies descend and simultaneously slit and stretch the raw material into one half diamond pattern. The top dies then ascend and shift laterally allowing the next strand width to be fed through the top and bottom dies. The top dies once again descend, slit and stretch the raw material, thus forming the next row of mesh. The same process continues until the desired sheet width is manufactured.
Since the expanding process slits and stretches the base raw material, little to no waste is generated during the manufacturing process, allowing us to create more with less. As an example, to produce 4’ of AMICO’s PISA mesh style, only 2’ of raw material is required resulting in a 2:1 yield from the raw material.
The expanding process creates a truss like structure (in section) yielding a product that is much stronger than its original form. Since the mesh is manufactured from a solid sheet or coil or raw material and is not woven or welded together, it will never unravel providing an extremely strong product.
AMICO’s Expanded Metal Mesh can be anodized, powder-coated, galvanized, or painted with a fluoropolymer paint.
The texture and three-dimensionality of the products add a modern look to any installation and it’s multi directional openings help either obscure or accentuate sightlines. Our ability to design unique mesh patterns in combination with engineered fastening systems also lets us partner with you on a project from design development through installation.
AMICO’s Expanded Metal Mesh can be anodized, powder-coated, galvanized, or painted with a fluoropolymer paint. These exceptional finishes not only protect the surface but also add color to AMICO’s products, creating overall stunning visual effects. What is unique about our Expanded Metal Mesh products is that they can blend seamlessly into the surroundings or become the center point of design. Expanded Metal Mesh can be used in ceilings, facades, railing infill panels, parking garage screens, sun shades, office partitions and residential applications. Our products can be seen in some of today’s most exciting architectural projects, such as Pier 35 NYC, Cooksville GO Station, Houston Dynamo Stadium, Portland Aerial Tram, Premont Harley Davidson, Remai Modern, Ottawa Art Gallery and many more.
AMICO’s Expanded Metal Mesh not only makes a bold architectural statement, but it also ensures your safety. The Expanded Metal Mesh is strong, durable, and lightweight and can also be used in applications that require slip resistance under foot and where barriers are required to keep people and objects safe from falling.
