Architectural – APEX Mesh finishes

Inspired by creativity around the world, APEX meshes are at the forefront of modern design. Soft curves and unusual apertures combine to present mesh that can blend seamlessly into its surroundings or make a bold architectural statement.

powder coating

Powder Coating provides a durable and long-lasting finish on our expanded mesh products and offers a wide range of colours, textures and gloss options.

The application of powder coating is applied using an electrostatic spray.  The expanded mesh panels are grounded and the charged powder is attracted to the expanded mesh, yielding an adhesive bond.  The panels enter the baking oven which turns the powder into a liquid and then cures into the protective finish.

The near-zero VOC level of powder coating and ~99% of over-spray powder which is recovered and reused makes powder coating an environmentally-friendly finish option.

Anodizing

Anodizing Process

Anodizing is an electrochemical process which converts the surface of our expanded aluminum mesh into a porous aluminum oxide, yielding a finish which is very durable, weather-resistant and available in a wide array of colors.  The anodized finish will not chip or peel and provides a colorfast finish that offers excellent UV resistance.

The acid etching process used fluoride-based ions to modify the surface of our expanded aluminum mesh.  The acid etching method yields a finished product which yields a consistent matte finish.

Electrolytic Coloring, also known as two step or two stage coloring, is a process which immerses our expanded aluminum mesh in an electrolyte bath.  The electrolyte bath contains metal salts which are deposited into the coating.  An electrical current is then passed through the solution which causes the metal salts to change from champagne-colored finish to standard bronze, all the way through to black.

Weathering Steel

Weathering Steel (commonly known as Corten Steel) is a group of steel alloys which were developed to eliminate the need for painting. The steel forms a stable rust-like appearance after several years’ exposure to the elements.

AMICO offers select expanded mesh styles produced from alloy A606 Type 4.

Fluoropolymer liquid paint

Fluoropolymer liquid paints offer great performance against corrosion, lasting colour and durability.  A wide range of colour options are available to paint our expanded mesh products and custom colour matching easily achieved.

The coatings contain 70% fluoropolymer resin, which helps protect our expanded mesh panels from environmental damage.  The finish resists chalking, fading, UV degradation and resists residue accumulation on the surface of the mesh.

2-Coat, 3-Coat and 4-Coat options are available making this paint finish extremely versatile and one that meets the industry’s toughest performance standards, including AAMA 2605.
