Perforated metal and expanded mesh, because of their open features are excellent for defining spaces and creating blinds. While they are opaque enough to create a sense of space, they do not create an overbearing solid surface making these spaces feel small.
This project at Pier 35 in NYC masterfully turned this undesirable industrial parking lot into a walkable destination.
