The contractor used “Steel Dog” (steel-dog.com) wall ties and “Hycrete”(an admixture, www.hycrete.com) in order to waterproof the 30’ high by 300’ long blindside wall project at the FDA Research facility. The contractor felt this was more economical than other waterproofing alternatives.

In order to waterproof this blindside wall project the contractor attached a Voltex (cetco.com) Bentonite Geotextile membrane to the stay-form. He then applied Bentoseal around all of the wall ties. Then a Voltex patch was placed over the wall tie and more Bentoseal was applied over the patch.

Approximately 12,000 SF. of stay was used in forming a three story seismic shear wall. The owner liked the fact that the use of STAY-FORM^® allowed the contractor to construct this blindside wall without interrupting the interior operations of the hospital.

Dwayne Goldberg used STAY-FORM^® for the first time in a blindside wall application on this hospital expansion project. The Symons STAY-FORM^® hook-ties were spaced 24” on center horizontally and 12″ on center vertically for the 16′ high 12″ & 14″ thick walls. Voltex waterproofing was applied to the STAY-FORM^® . The 3000psi concrete was placed in approximately 4 foot lifts.
