Type of Bulk Head Application
This section of the Pacific Coast Highway has repeatedly been subjected to rock and mud slides over the years. Caltrans has designed a realignment that includes two tunnels and two bridges. The contractor is using STAY-FORM® to form the bulkheads on this cast-in-place cantilevered bridge portion of this project. The tunnel portals (four) will also use STAY-FORM® as a backstop for shotcreting as well as for bulkheading the base mat slab. The actual tunnel boring machine (TBM) will not start until sometime next year (2008).
